In the role of Member Engagement Director, you will be accountable for the overall strategy and execution of a capability focused on developing and maintaining Membership in an exciting and dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of years of experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment within a biopharmaceutical company, member-based association and/or industry consortia.
The successful candidate will be both a strategic thinker, as well as a successful collaborator who can partner cross-functionally with Our Client’s Leadership and with Member Company leaders to design, plan and execute a member engagement strategy. The candidate will possess strong stakeholder management and communication skills to lead to successful outcomes, leveraging their knowledge of biopharma R&D.
Our Client’s 22 Members are the DNA of the organization. The Member Engagement Director will be responsible for understanding the unique needs and value drivers of each Member and working with both internal Our Client and Member Company leaders with the goal of enabling Member Companies to maximizing their investment in Our Client Membership.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will further establish and continuously improve Our Client’s Member Engagement capability, and eager to devise long-term engagement strategies that are aligned with the organization’s growth. This position will collaborate across the Communication & Engagement function, working closely with the VP, Communications & Engagement. This role will involve frequent interactions with the Our Client Leadership Team, including the CEO and COO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Primary Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Our Client Leadership Team & Key Member Company Leadership (Board Member, Integrated Leadership Team Member, and Program Lead) to:
- Understand the priorities of each Member and define a Member Engagement Strategy plan for each member.
- Define, monitor, and action plan success for Key Member Company roles.
- Determine ways to expand championship of Our Client within Member Companies beyond key roles (e.g. HR, Comms, R&D LT) and support a strategy to cultivate relationships with Leaders more senior to our Board (e.g. Head of Clinical Development, Head of R&D, CEO).
- Work with Our Client Leadership, Member Company Leadership and Member Company HR Teams on a strategy that attracts, retains, and recognizes key Member Company talent.
Define Our Client’s overall Member Engagement Strategy (Events, Recognition).
Own Our Client’s Member Development Strategy from identification of new Members through onboarding.
Define a long-term strategy to optimize Our Client’s Country Network to increase global representation of Member Company Colleagues on Our Client initiatives.
Ability to represent Our Client, and the portfolio of work, to Member Company Audiences.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
People Management responsibilities, including a passion to nurture and develop high-potential talent.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum BS Degree
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a biopharmaceutical company, member-based association and/or industry consortia with a strong emphasis in stakeholder management.

- Must possess a collaborative spirit that thrives maintaining existing relationships and building new ones.
- Confident speaking with/presenting to new audiences in either small group settings, or at Member Company events and/or conferences.
- Must have a solid foundational understanding of clinical research and development processes.
- Must have a solid understanding and experience of a biopharmaceutical research & development organization. Cross-functional experience, including with Human Resources a plus.
- Strong proficiency in change management, project management, stakeholder management, and communications.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- An ability to work within a matrixed environment and willingness to swiftly adapt to foreseen and unforeseen changes in project priorities.
- An ability to think both strategically and to dive deep into operational issues when required.
- An ability to manage ambiguity and develop clear, informed strategies from various data sources and inputs.
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills and a process improvement mindset.
